With an average of 975, DBA Sessionista claimed their Php 1, 500-peso prize for winning in the first ever Acapela contest in the college held at the CCT Ground, September 26.

"Masaya!" Patric Lawrence Buan of BSBA MM 3C, Sessionista Coordinator, exclaimed even before he was asked. "Hindi talaga nasayang 'yung effort ng grupo naming," he added.

The winning group performed the songs 'Tayo'y Mga Pinoy,' 'Awitin Mo, Isasayaw Ko,' 'Starships,' and 'Rock Baby,' with a modern yet lightly old-fashioned blending along with groovy dance steps.

A contest without musical instruments, Acapela was a competition made famous because of the Hollywood hit film Pitch Perfect where a group would be battling with their vocal chords. As for the mechanics of CCT's version of the contest, a group from each department should have no more than 15 singers with members who are bona fide students of CCT. They could be males, females or combination of both and the group's song list should contain Original Pinoy Music songs.

"Matagal nang nabuo 'tong grupo naming kaya ang saya talaga dahil nanalo kami. Si Ma'am (Mary Joyce) Catudio talaga ang nakaisip na sumali kami," explained Buan.

Five groups from all five departments competed but only three made it to the places. The Biglaan Group, BSCS representative who gained 87.33%, was declared second place while BSHRM earned 93.33%, landing on the first place. Judges of the contest were: Mr. Napoleon Bay, Vice President for Administrative Affairs; Sidney Reyes, 7th District Coordinator; and Ms. Richelle Medina, Associate Guidance Counselor.
